High School Juniors and Below, Why Do You Need to Know?

If you are a high school junior, sophomore or freshman and are interested in attending certain colleges or universities after graduation (even if you aren’t certain yet), now is the time to be looking at the admissions requirements for each school on your list. Obviously, you won’t be ready to start applying to these schools for some time, but you can begin preparing by making sure you meet the minimum requirements for admission to the schools you are interested in. If you don’t meet all of the admission requirements for your schools of choice, you still have time to work on meeting those minimum goals before you graduate high school. And remember, these are just the minimum requirements for consideration and admission to your desired school. Be sure to talk with your school counselor, your parents and admissions officers at your school of choice about the steps you need to take to become a competitive applicant at your desired school.

High School Seniors, It’s Crunch Time!

For most seniors who are interested in attending a college or university after graduation, now until early spring is when you will be applying to your schools of choice and hearing back about your acceptance status. It’s time to narrow down your list of potential schools and choose which ones you want to apply to. In North Carolina, the University of North Carolina Campuses have a unified set of minimum admissions requirements. However, some schools in the UNC system have additional minimum admissions requirements, and you should check with your individual schools of choice to learn their specific admissions requirements before applying. Of course, in addition to the UNC system, North Carolina offers over 90 schools from which to choose, including private universities and community colleges, so be sure to research your schools of choice specifically.

To find the admissions pages and information about any of North Carolina’s higher education opportunities use the NC College Search tool on CFNC.org.

Whether you’re trying to get into your dream four-year university or two-year community college, understanding the admissions requirements of the schools on your list is an important part of your preparation.
