Many experts recommend thinking about the intersection between your interests, your talents, and job demand. If these three aren’t all present, you could face serious challenges to earning a living. For instance, maybe you have a passion for repairing typewriters and you are really talented at it, but how much demand is there in the job market for typewriter repair people? Not much.

NC Commerce has a helpful way to consider future job demand, called Star Jobs. Here’s how they describe it:

“Star Jobs is a new and simplified way to help you identify promising occupations. Star ratings are assigned based on wages, projected growth rate, and projected job openings, and each occupation has a rating of between 1 and 5 stars. Occupations with 5 stars are considered to have better career prospects than occupations with fewer stars.” – NC Commerce
